HONORING THE PAST. EMPOWERING THE PRESENT. HEALING THE FUTURE.
Here at Mālama Pono Nui Loa, we believe in the importance of intention. When choosing our name we knew we needed something that would reflect and represent our intentions, mission, and goals for this organization.
"Mā" refers to māmā or mākua which is a Hawaiian term for mother and "la" refers to the sun which is symbolic of the divine father. When we say "mālama" we are referring to the polarities that exist within us and promising to nurture our divine light. Examples of these polarities include; the connection between night and day, and the connection between the divine masculine and divine feminine (yin and yang).
Pono refers to "po" or darkness. It also means truth, virtue, or clarity. So mālama pono refers to taking care of your virtue or inner truth.
Nui loa can be translated to mean "all my love". The demigod Maui bound the sun and the moon with rope and cord because he loved humans and wanted to help them succeed. In this way nui loa is like Maui's chord or can be thought of as the eternal spark. Putting all of those pieces together we get: Mālama Pono Nui Loa.
Mālama Pono Nui Loa: to take care of one's eternal light speaks to the divine connection between all things; and that by healing one's inner world, one can help heal the outer world.
At Mālama Pono Nui Loa, our mission is to foster a sense of love, altruism and community. We envision a world where communities thrive in harmony with nature through the use of sustainable farming practices, and where acting with pono (altruism) is a cornerstone in all endeavors.
Mālama Pono Nui Loa is dedicated to fostering a vibrant and sustainable culture by blending the wisdom of traditional customary practices with a diversified system of agroforestry. We promote sustainable food systems and protect natural resources through education and collaboration. We offer workshops and classes where we share our knowledge and collaborate with local communities to co-create solutions that empower them. We strive to create a safe space for all who join us and hope to create a more sustainable and culturally sensitive world.
Mālama Pono Nui Loa is dedicated to practicing what we preach. We are committed to operating sustainably in every aspect of our work, from minimizing our carbon footprint to reducing waste.
We are a seedling/fledgling 501(c)3 non-profit dedicated to giving back and working with the natural land along with our local communities. As we are just starting out, any support you can offer goes a long way in helping us grow and further achieve our mission of honoring the past, healing the present and empowering the future
We host mālama days every Saturday from 12-5 and will be hosting various workshops and classes in the near future. Feel free to contact us for more information about how you can get involved with our community by filling out a form below.
